The easyPEST project, implemented within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, aims to ensure the early detection and effective monitoring of invasive pest insects in the Black Sea Basin.
Under the project, an AI-powered mobile application is being developed to automatically identify 15 high-risk invasive insect species encountered in the field through images. A regional citizen science observation network will be established with the contributions of farmers, students, teachers, researchers, and local communities.
We are looking for volunteers living in pilot regions who are interested in observing nature and agricultural areas and wish to be among the first users of the easyPEST application.
Volunteers participating in the program will first receive training from experts on biodiversity, climate change, invasive species, and nature observation. Following the training, participants will conduct field observations using the easyPEST mobile application, photograph pest insects they encounter, and share the collected data with the project team.
These observations will contribute to protecting biodiversity, forests, agricultural production, and local economies against invasive pest species.
Farmers, teachers, university students, citizens living in rural areas, nature observers, and anyone interested in the topic can apply.
